Mika Tolvanen

Mika Tolvanen was born in Lieksa, Finland in 1975. His studio is in Helsinki, in an old coffee shop in the Töölö district. The Mika Tolvanen Studio designs furniture, lighting and consumer goods. This is how Mika describes his projects: “My designs are function-oriented. My products are for use, but this does not mean that they cannot also be beautiful. I do not have a dogma, but I believe that good design stems from comprehension of materials and a desire to improve how they work. An object can have a complex range of functions but it shouldn’t be complicated”.
